Amtryke Eligibility Requirements

IT IS ABOUT ABILITIES, NOT DISABILITIES!

We are pleased you are interested to learn how the Amtryke Project of the Kiwanis Club of Tellico Village might help your child. 

We believe that children of all abilities should have the opportunity that riding a bicycle or tricycle can provide for exercise, play and social interaction.  An Amtryke tricycle can provide that opportunity safely and be custom fitted to the rider’s needs.

We provide Amtryke adaptive tricycles, without cost, to children having disabilities which prevent them from using a conventional tricycle or bicycle for recreation or therapy.

Will your child qualify for our Amtryke Project? Please read the following to know some important requirements for a child to qualify for our Amtryke Project:

• Your child must have a disability which prevents them from using a conventional tricycle or bicycle for recreation or therapy.

• You must be unable to afford to buy an Amtryke adaptive tricycle for your child.

• Your child must be18 years old or younger.

• Your child must have access to a relatively level, well paved or packed area to ride safely and get the intended benefit of the tricycle.  Your child’s therapist can help you know what riding conditions are recommended.

• You, or someone who can help you, must have the ability to transport the tricycle when needed.  A larger vehicle, such as a mini-van or pickup truck, is needed to carry some Amtryke tricycles for larger children.

A licensed physical therapist or occupational therapist must prepare and sign the application forms.  The therapist at your child’s school might be willing to assist with this.  If your child does not have a therapist, let us know and we can try to help you find one.

Are you ready to apply for an Amtryke? Send an email to [email protected] with your name and phone number.  We will send you an Amtryke Adaptive Tricycle Request Form which you can complete, sign and return it to us.

When we have received the completed form and are able to confirm your child’s eligibility, we will send you the Amtryke Project application forms and instructions for their completion and submission.
